- The daughter takes her fixed 1/2 (no son present).
- The mother takes her fixed 1/6 (a descendant is present).
- The father takes his fixed 1/6.
- Sum so far: 1/2 + 1/6 + 1/6 = 5/6. Remainder: 1/6.
- No nearer residuary heir than the father exists, so he also takes the 1/6 residue: 1/6 + 1/6 = 1/3.
