Miraath Guide exists to make Islamic inheritance approachable - without turning a sacred, precise science into either a black box or a wall of legal text.
What Miraath Guide is
Miraath Guide is a free, guided calculator and learning resource for Islamic inheritance (Faraid) according to the Hanafi school. It walks you through a short series of questions about a deceased person's surviving family, then shows exactly who inherits, who does not, and why - with fractions, percentages, and plain-language reasoning for every share.
Why it was created
Distributing an inheritance correctly is a religious obligation, but the rules involve real complexity: blocking relationships, residuary chains, and adjustments like Awl and Radd. Most people encounter this only once or twice in their lives, at a difficult time, and existing tools are often either an intimidating spreadsheet or a long-form article that assumes prior knowledge.
The problem with traditional long-form calculators
Many existing calculators ask every possible question up front, regardless of whether it can affect your case, and present a final number with little explanation of how it was reached. Miraath Guide instead asks only what is relevant to your specific family structure, and treats the explanation of each share as just as important as the number itself.
Our guided, question-routing approach
The wizard adapts as you answer. If the father is alive, we never ask about the paternal grandfather. If there is a son, sibling questions are skipped entirely, because a son blocks every sibling from inheriting. This keeps the process short for simple cases and only goes deep when your family structure requires it.
Hanafi scope
This MVP implements the Hanafi madhhab only. Other schools of Islamic law reach different conclusions on a number of questions - Umariyyatayn, the treatment of the paternal grandfather alongside siblings, and Radd among others - and mixing positions from different schools within a single calculation would misrepresent all of them. Supporting additional madhhabs is a possible future direction, not part of this MVP.
